Trailblazers is a rare game that plays a wide number of players (1-8) and works surprisingly well at all player counts. That’s because players are simultaneously drafting and playing cards—there is virtually zero downtime! We’ve seen 8-player games last 30 or even 20 minutes.

That said, those who enjoy solo gaming might find that solo is their favorite way to play. That’s because Trailblazers features 3 full-fledged solo modes that are highly challenging and replayable. Some members of our team aren’t really even regular solo gamers, but the solo modes of Trailblazers are so approachable and addicting that even they are hooked.

Trailblazers features mainly uniquely shaped cards (35x70mm domino cards), so there probably isn’t a sleeve that exists for these cards. The good news is that we are offering durable, waterproof PVC cards (in the Super Travel and Deluxe Editions), so sleeves are entirely unnecessary for this material.

Yes! We understand that some backers will not have the needed funds before the campaign closes—but you will have access to the pledge manager and be able to add rewards after the campaign.

The cost of each individual game will remain the same, but you can definitely save on shipping costs by combining a larger order into one shipment. If one person backs the project, then they can add more funds to their pledge and that full amount will be credited to their pledge manager account where they can add more games.

As we will be shipping these games to backers all over the world, it’s not possible to include local taxes in the price as it differs by country and the size of your pledge. Local taxes will be added in the Pledge Manager after the campaign. So if for example you are in the UK or the EU you will be required to pay roughly 20% VAT on the cost of your Selected Reward(s) plus Shipping Costs in the Pledge Manager. If you wish to calculate a rough VAT estimate for your order, you can take 20% of your Pledged Rewards plus 20% of your estimated shipping costs.

For those of you who have pledged for Kickstarter campaigns in the past, please note that it used to be that Kickstarter campaigns could use a loophole to avoid most of VAT expenses or only pay VAT on manufacturing costs (rather than reward costs). But we have learned that very recently (last year) the EU has cracked down on this practice and is now charging VAT based on reward + shipping costs.

We are currently in communication with potential international partners who are interested in localizing Trailblazers. Of course, a more successful Kickstarter campaign is likely to accelerate this process and gain wider attention. For this campaign, we are only offering the English language version, but keep on the lookout for more languages in the coming years!

After the campaign you can access retailer pricing within the pledge manager and adjust order quantity. A minimum of $100 of products will be required for the order (covered by the $100 reward level that you selected during the campaign). Proof of a physical retail location will be required at that time. If no proof can be provided then you will only have access to regular Kickstarter pricing. Discounted flat-rate shipping ($25 USA, $30 EU/UK, $40 Austrailia/Canada, $50 Rest of World) is charged after the campaign and does not change based on your order size.

The clamshell case is built to hold the base game for 1-4 players, but it also has some room to spare so can actually fit all of the cards (for 1-8 players, base game) into it. Alternatively, you could fit the base game with enough animal tokens to play at least a 2 player standard game + animal expansion or play Epic Solo Mode. It’s snug, but it definitely fits. We also recommend you bag the cards/wood when filling the case with extra components for hassle-free storage & removal.

It’s very easy to separate into the base game for 1-4 players, too. All you do is take 1 deck of trail cards (each deck has a unique back) and add in the desired extra cards (camps, player cards, goal cards, solo card) and you are good to go. You can even split the game into two 1-4 player copies if you want to lend the case or box to a friend. You’ll only need to decide who gets the wood tokens and who gets which goal cards ;)

Essentially, we made the base game (for 1-4 players) maximally portable to easily take and play anywhere; and the expansions are easiest to play at home or at a formal game session (like a regular board game). The Deluxe Edition is your best option for having the best of both worlds.

In our September 7th update, we also unveiled a Travel-friendly Expansions add-on that is compatible with the Super Travel and Deluxe Editions. Basically it features smaller expansion components that fit in the clamshell case with the 1-4p cards.
